Under general supervision, services, installs and replaces water, reclaim water, electric services, and current diversion meters. Also installs and replaces associated metering devices, piping and components used for customer billing or monitoring purposes such as chilled water and sewer flow meters, with technical support from others. Job requires general knowledge of methods, practices, procedures and techniques for installing, monitoring and replacing water and electric meters, sufficient to perform a range of routine skilled craft activities. Procedures are established and a number of specific guidelines are available, requiring judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate methods, techniques and procedures to apply to specific cases. Solves routine or recurring problems and identifies and suggests solutions to more complex problems. Completed work is evaluated for technical accuracy and compliance with established procedures and practices. Regular contact with individuals in other work groups and external customers is required to obtain, clarify or provide facts or information.
Working hours: Monday - Friday 7am to 3:30pm & Some Saturdays
--Must have experience with Field Electrical, Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Mechanical or Utility Metering Systems.
--Electric and water meters, meter diagrams and as-built drawings, load center diagrams, circuits and transformers.
--Methods, practices, procedures, techniques, and hazards associated with installing self-contained electric meters, water, reclaim, sewer flow, and chilled water meters; and maintaining, testing and calibrating water and reclaim water meters; and repairing water and reclaim water meters, enclosures and associated equipment and components for industrial, commercial and residential service.
--Electrical and plumbing codes relating to wiring to and from meters, switch boxes, fuse boxes and to water service connections and back-flow prevention.
--Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
--JEA Engineering Rules and Regulations, standards and associated documents pertaining to meters and service lines.
--Policies pertaining to utility tampering, service area and rate structure.
--OSHA standards, and safe working practices and procedures.
--Performing arithmetic computations and determining linear, square and cubic measurements.
--Operating and maintaining assigned vehicle.
--Using equipment, tools, and materials required for working with meters and services, such as tapping and drilling machines, pumps, tamps, air compressors, pipe saws, pavement breakers, hydraulic power equipment, utility locating devices, leak locators, hydraulic machines and attachments, gas detector and various hand tools.
--Recognizing electric meter jumpers and meter bypasses.
--Troubleshooting and correcting malfunctioning water, reclaim and electric meters and equipment.
--Identifying primary and secondary electric lines.
--Testing fuses and switch boxes and installing surge protectors.
