Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Railroad Engineering Services Finance, Accounting, and Purchasing activities

  • Assist regional senior level and department management team with financial review, budget and analysis

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to corporate accounting, department heads and senior management

  • Work with regional Finance Directors to understand regional budgets and constraints

  • Review, analyze and ensure that financial statements are accurate, complete and in accordance with company policies

  • Implement and ensure the ongoing effectiveness of appropriate internal controls

  • Develop and maintain finance and accounting policies and procedures, as appropriate

  • Ensure management decisions are carried out in accordance with both corporate policies and any additional company policies

  • Assist management with achieving financial, safety and other goals

  • Evaluate, in cooperation with corporate accounting/finance, the finance and accounting implications of proposed transactions

  • Perform detailed financial and economic analysis to assist management decision making. Manage processes for preparation of annual operating and capital budgets as well as quarterly forecasts

  • Ensure capital projects are managed and accounted for in accordance with company policies

  • Assist with the management of FELA and other claims and ensure they are appropriately accounted for in accordance with company policies

  • Manage related property taxes and support corporate accounting with sales and use taxes

  • Implement a career development and training plan for direct reports

  • Special projects, as required

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to Senior VP – Engineering

  • Reports indirectly to Corporate Accounting/Finance

  • Direct reports include Accountant and Administrative Assistant

Required Experience

  • BS Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or Economics, and a minimum of 7 – 10 years related experience, MBA and/or professional certifications preferred
